With seven games remaining before the season ends for the rest of the teams, a win for Gor over the next three games will see them establish an unassailable lead at the top as with four games remaining, only 12 points will be on offer. This, is making the assumption that the chasing pack of Bandari, AFC and Sofapaka also win all their three games. If they don’t and Gor wins, then the party might come earlier for K’Ogalo.Gor have faced a crazy month of August where they have had 10 matches lined up in the space of 29 days, including two CAF Confederations Cup matches. But even in the midst of the pile up, they have been unfazed and have only dropped points in two matches, a 2-2 draw against Nakumatt FC in Machakos and their first loss of the season, a 2-1 result away to Bandari FC in Mombasa. They won 3-0 against Kariobangi Sharks, 2-1 against Posta Rangers and Monday afternoon’s 2-0 result against Homeboyz, all matches played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.Gor Mahia midfielder Francis Kahata leaves Homeboyz’s Moses Mudavadi sprawling on the ground in a Kenyan Premier League match at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on August 13, 2018.On Monday, they needed two quickfire goals in the first half to see off the Kakamega based side.Head coach Dylan Kerr made some slight adjustments to his squad with Shabaan Odhoji stepping into goal for the injured Boniface Oluoch.Defender Karim Nizigiyimana made his first start for the club in almost a year starting at right back while Wellington Ochieng was tasked with manning the left side of defense in the absence of AWOL Godfrey Walusimbi who is said to be forcing a move to South African side Kaizer Chiefs.Jacques Tuyisenge was absent having been rested with a slight ankle knock and the attack was tasked to George ‘Blackberry’ Odshiambo and new signing Francis Mustafa. And Mustafa ensured he rose to the occasion scoring his first league goal for K’Ogalo in the 31st minute before Innocent Wafula doubled the tally just four minutes later. In the second half, Homeboyz came back stronger and they halved the deficit in the 72nd minute, Benjamin Oketch scoring from a freekick.Just like it happened against Posta last week, Gor were made to live nervously in the remaining 18 minutes of the game. They however eased that pressure when Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi scored in the 89th minute to bag the vital win and inch closer to the title.0Shares0000(Visited 4 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Gor Mahia striker Francis Mustafa celebrates his goal against Kakamega Homeboyz during their Kenyan premier League clash at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on August 13, 2018. PHOTO/Gor Mahia FCNAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 13 – Gor Mahia will clinch a historic 17th Kenyan Premier League title at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani on August 25 when they play AFC Leopards, if they pick three points against their arch rivals, and, would have won their preceding two matches. The 16-time champions stretched their lead at the top of the standings with a well worked 3-1 win over Kakamega Homeboyz at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Monday afternoon, which now means they are only nine points away from wrapping up the business.

Pam Green (left) says she is grateful for people assisting her to help a beggar get a job. Here she is with Nomsa Ncube, one of the people who gave a donation.(Image: Facebook)It took a small action such as posting a detailed status on her Facebook profile to lead to thousands of South Africans opening their hearts to help a homeless young man find a job.Pam Green, from Glenhazel, posted a status on 29 June, and asked her friends to share the message. They did, and the message was shared more than 34 000 times. Within days job offers streamed in for the 21-year-old, Joseph Phukube.Green’s message read: “This is Joseph Phukube. He is a beggar in Sandton. What makes him different to every other beggar you see? He isn’t there begging for money, he is begging for a job, literally! He has his matric certificate and CV on hand.“What a gentle young man, life has been hard on him. And his response when I asked where he stayed was ‘under Grayston Bridge.’“This is a bright kid, just look at his maths marks, he received a university entrance!”TRAFFIC LIGHT MEETINGGreen says she met Phukube when she stopped her car at a traffic light in Sandton. “He approached my car and tried to convey to me that he was looking for a job. Embarrassed to admit, but I drove off and rushed to my appointment that I was late for.“About 100m later, at the next robot I couldn’t bare the guilt I felt at ignoring him anymore. I turned around to go back to find Joseph Phukube and speak to him.”The local newspaper, Sandton Chronicle, reports that Phukube has received more than 1 000 responses following Green’s Facebook update. Job offers made to him range from call centre agent positions to scholarships at various institutions.Phukube says his dream job is in marketing. “I love new challenges, especially ones that will help me experience new things in life. I also like the chance to change businesses and come up with new ideas,” he adds.A day after her initial post, when offers of help had started streaming in.Her action has inspired admiration on social media, with Twitter chattering about her:The #HelpJoseph tag really warms my heart. Please RT the hashtag.— Opinionated Coloured(@koren_devereux) June 30, 2015@comp_breakfast Pam Green is an amazing woman. 25k people reached out to help and support! Good luck tomorrow Joseph! #HelpJoseph— JaxEngelbrec(@Jaxlibra) June 30, 2015She kept the public in the loop about Phukube’s developments:It is 5pm and it is the end of his first day of work at @LocomuteZA! #helpJoseph pic.twitter.com/dBO2jWzrF7— Pam Green (@PamGreen_17) July 6, 2015DETERMINED TO DO MOREThe 34-year-old says that she hopes the #helpJoseph campaign has inspired others to help even just one person in need. “I have always believed that we have a responsibility to each other to help make each other’s lives easier. I pride myself in honouring my truth.“People have questioned his [Phukube’s] motives and my response is simple: I would rather be duped by 10 false-hearted people and know that I helped one genuine person in need, than miss the opportunity of helping 10 people because I was duped by one.”Green, who has been doing volunteer work to help others since she was in school, says social media has definitely been a big help in assisting people in need. “I have put up previous campaigns for other community outreach projects I was involved with.“Recently [we had a campaign] for the victims of the xenophobic attacks, where we assisted at the displacement camps, as well as assisting families to return to their country of origin. Please can people like our page, My brother’s keeper, to access information about future initiatives I will be starting.”She is excited for Phukube, saying: “I can’t wait to see him flourish. Everyone deserves a chance and I am so glad that everyone sees the same special soul that I did. I am truly hoping that Joseph’s story will help me to help many more people in the future.”Watch Phukube’s response following the offers of help:
More Noise to Signal. Tags:#Cartoons#Facebook#web Guide to Performing Bulk Email Verification rob cottingham This hasn’t been a good past few weeks for Facebook. Growing concerns over what Facebook’s deliberately doing to your privacy collided with news about what Facebook’s doing accidentally with your data. There are two upcoming ways you can protest: by not logging in on June 6, or – if you’re ready to finally cut the umbilical cord – quitting altogether on May 31. So far, while they’re getting press attention, neither initiative is showing signs of snowballing yet, with registered followers numbering only in the hundreds. That’s not to say the discontent is limited to net activists and privacy advocates. “How do I delete my Facebook account” is suddenly a very popular search on Google.Which I actually find encouraging, and not because of any hostility toward Facebook. (Not that I’m happy with its privacy practices, or its approach to the open Web, by which it seems to mainly mean a Web that’s open to driving data into Facebook. And not that I side with the “your-privacy’s-dead-anyway-so-shut-up” crowd, either.) If so many people are at least thinking of voting with their feet, then maybe there’s at least some awareness among regular users that our privacy, attention and data are all worth something. And maybe, just maybe, that awareness could coalesce into a market force that rewards openness and accountability, and punishes arbitrary, high-handed behaviour.Otherwise, well, I likely won’t quit this year. A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… At the end of March, The New York Times finally activated the paywall that it had announced a year earlier. The publication took a “porous” approach to charging users, letting readers access up to 20 articles a month for free and allowing for links from social networks like Facebook or Twitter to pass through without counting. Still, onlookers have wondered what the effect of the wall would be on the site.According to Web traffic measurement firm Hitwise, the numbers are in and traffic has certainly dipped in the nearly two weeks since the wall was put in place.Hitwise examined traffic to the New York Times website according to two metrics, visits and pageviews, by comparing the 12 days prior to the pay wall to the 12 days after. While pageviews are defined as any time that page is loaded, even if multiple times by the same person, visits are broken into “sessions”, so if the same person visited the site once in the morning and then once later that day, it would count as two visits. Browsing a number of pages in a short period of time, however, would equal one visit but multiple pageviews. So what were the results? According to Hitwise, the site has seen “a decrease in the overall visits between 5% and 15%” and “a decline in total page views which ranged between 11% and 30%.” Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Related Posts 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Tags:#news#web Hitwise notes the general decline in visits, speculating that the reason for the increase on Saturday, April 9, was “likely due to visitors seeking news around the potential government shutdown and ongoing budget discussions.” Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Similarly, pageviews decreased by anywhere from 11% to 30%. Surely, none of this is as bad as the now-fabled implementation of a paywall by the Newsday, however, which resulted in just 35 subscriptions in the three months after it was put in place.Hitwise also points out that networks like Facebook and Twitter could be used as a clever way to workaround the paywall, but that “to date there has not been a significant difference in the share of upstream traffic from both search and social networks to NYTimes.com before and after the launch of the paywall.”Disclosure: ReadWriteWeb is a syndication partner of the New York Times Technology section. mike melanson

World Champion Viswanathan Anand signed truce after failing to break Englishman Luke McShane’s solid defences while Norwegian Magnus Carlsen defeated local hope David Howell to join the leaders after the fifth round of the London Chess Classic on Monday.Anand and McShane remained the only two undefeated players in the tournament following a draw between them while Carlsen benefitted from an oversight by Howell in the second time control.Going by normal rules, Anand and McShane are the only two leaders but the soccer-like scoring system, which gives three points for a win and one for a draw, has put Magnus back on track for the title with three wins.Anand and McShane have won two and drawn three which means that under normal scoring system they would tally three and a half points each, half point more than Carlsen who has lost two games. With all leaders on nine points, Vladimir Kramnik, who drew with English Michael Adams, is sharing the fourth spot along with American Hikaru Nakamura on eight points each.Nakamura got the better of an out- of- sort Nigel Short who suffered his fourth defeat in the ?145000 tournament being played on round robin basis between eight players.Adams holds the sixth spot on six points while David Howell remained on two, a full point ahead of back- ranker Nigel Short.Anand pressed for advantage in the Berlin defense game but it seemed the Indian was much better in the middle game that ensued.McShane however remained on his guard right through and restored parity with some timely exchanges leading to a drawn queen and bishops endgame.advertisement”These are trends, a month from now we may see them all switch over to something else,” said Anand when asked about the Berlin defence that’s in vogue.”I was better after the opening but it was just slightly better, if it was serious, I did not see it,” the world champion said.Carlsen defeated Howell from the black side of a Najdorf Sicilian. The Norwegian was in his elements post the second time control after Howell erred on the 43rd move and wrapped the issue quickly.Kramnik faced the Kind pawn opening and it was another Berlin defense by the Russian. The alternative main line employed by Adams did not yield much as Kramnik equalised quickly and started looking for initiative.Adams had to find some resources to let the game drift towards a draw.Nakamura was pleasantly surprised to see Short employing a side variation in the Marshall Gambit. The American was on top in the middle game with an extra pawn and relished the endgame that arose after subsequent exchanges.Short, who is going through a forgettable event, could not pose much of a challenge. In the open event being organised simultaneously, 15- year old International Master Sahaj Grover came back into the reckoning with a fine win over Nicolai Getz of Norway. While Sahaj moved up to four points out of five games, Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta remained on 3.5 after losing to Gawain Jones of England. With four rounds still to go, Grandmaster Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury is also on 3.5 points and the lead is shared by Simon Williams of England and Gavin Wall of Ireland – both have five points each.- With PTI inputs
