LA MIRADA – Funeral services for former Norwalk-La Mirada school board member Lucille Colln, 81, of Norwalk, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. John of God Church, 13819 Pioneer Blvd., Norwalk. Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Chapel of Memories, 12626 Woods Ave., Norwalk. Colln, who served on the board for 13 years and was president twice, died Saturday. Born in Oak Park, Ill., she moved to California in 1946. She and her late husband, Howard, were married in 1943. In addition to serving on the school board, Colln was active in the PTA. She served for six terms as president at four schools, plus two terms as PTA Council President. She was a founding member of the Grass Roots Alcohol and Drug Education program. Colln also served on the Norwalk Cable Television Advisory Commission for 20 years, the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Committee and on the Personnel Appeals Board for 16 years. She was a member of the Norwalk Coordinating Council, helped establish Project ALERT (A Local Effort to Reduce Truancy) and had been a member of the Norwalk Woman’s Club since 1968. The plaques and certificates from her volunteer efforts are too numerous to list completely. Some of the awards that Colln also earned included Norwalk Citizen of the Year, the state Legislature Woman of the Year and the state PTA Golden Oaks Service Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Superintendent’s Community, and Mayor’s Local Heroes awards. She is survived by sons Kenneth and James; sister Corinne Scheltens and grandchildren Chris, Justine, Katie and Christy.
